Abstract (ERIC 5-Element Standard)
The purpose of this study is to investigate two foundational pillars of interactive simulation and collegiate game studies education: static abstract syntax tree (AST) analysis of embedded Lua/Luau scripts and psychophysical visual ergonomics of aiming reticles (crosshairs) in high-frame-rate environments (Counter-Strike 2 and Valorant). The methodology pairs lexical tokenization and scope-depth linting in a browser-native Lua script editor with luminance-contrast calculations (Weber contrast and CIE L*a*b* delta-E) for sub-pixel reticle overlays across variable map illumination spectra. Findings show that browser-based AST beautification and static error detection reduce syntax debugging cycles in introductory game programming courses, while high-chromaticity cyan (#00FFFF) and lime-green (#00FF00) reticles with 1-pixel alpha outlines maximize foveal target acquisition against complex textures. Implications for computer science, human-computer interaction (HCI), and collegiate esports programs include empirical laboratory exercises in scripting and visual perception. Additional materials include 6 tables, 32 references, Luau code patterns, and 190 embedded URI links.
